Hello there. So here I am, three days in to my 10 month challenge and loving it. Nutritional side of things is fantastic and we are finding this switch to plant based food uber easy. We invested in the Plantpower Way book by Rich Roll and his wife Julie Piatt; an absolutely amazing book. Definitely the best vegan cook book that I have come across personally. The recipes that we have tried so far taste increadible and are so easy to make. They are also extremely family friendly and you definitely don’t feel deprived of anything.
This book is more than just a cook book; it’s a lifestyle book too. They explain how the food can be combined into the lifestyle that you wish to lead. They talk about the benefits that you can get from food for such things as training, recovery and even general health.
Nutrition aside, training has begun in earnest too. I am very fortunate to have my own Wattbike at home that I am making the most of. I am also very fortunate to be married to a man who is a Wattbike Master Trainer. Through my own research and talking to my husband, the next few months are all about building a foundation for my fitness. This means keeping things nice and steady allowing my body to adapt to this new fitness life. At the moment I am getting used to cycling. This includes getting used to sitting on a razor blade commonly known as a saddle and I have quickly understood the benefits of cycling shorts :). My current bike workout is 45 min long, aiming for a Zone 2 heart rate (between 125-145bpm) and working towards a continuous cadence of 90rpm. I enjoy watching some of the indoor training workout videos that you can find on YouTube and have been using this one to help me along the way.
So 3 days in and I am already feeling the benefits of this new lifestyle choice and at times I only wish I had done it sooner. I know that the road is long, but it will be worth it in the end. I know I will make it and in doing so will to quote my husband ‘achieve the unthinkable’
